Emergency calls are received through the Kingston Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC), where specially trained call-takers and dispatchers determine the most appropriate response and deploy paramedic resources. Hastings–Quinte Paramedic Services uses a coordinated deployment model to position ambulances throughout the region, helping ensure timely emergency response across urban, rural, and remote communities.

Frontline paramedics are supported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by Operations Superintendents, who provide operational leadership, respond to significant incidents, and assist crews when additional support is required.

Specialized teams prepared for unique and complex situations.

Hastings–Quinte Paramedic Services offers a variety of specialized teams that enhance emergency response capabilities, support frontline operations, and help ensure patients receive care in challenging environments.

Emergency Response Team (ERT)

Specially trained paramedics who work in partnership with local police services and participate in ongoing tactical and emergency response training.

Difficult Access Response Team (D.A.R.T.)

Specially trained paramedics who operate the service's Utility Task Vehicle (UTV), providing medical response in areas where traditional ambulance access may be difficult or impossible. The team also supports community events and special operations.

Peer Support Team

A team of specially trained paramedics who provide peer support and psychological first aid to colleagues, helping promote wellness and resiliency within the service.

Hastings–Quinte Paramedic Services regularly participates in community events, public education initiatives, school visits, healthcare awareness campaigns, charity events, and partner-led activities throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. These opportunities allow residents to meet paramedics, learn about emergency preparedness and healthcare services, and strengthen connections between the service and the communities we serve.

Understanding what happens during an ambulance response.

When paramedics arrive, they will assess the patient's condition, gather important health information, provide treatment when required, and determine the most appropriate next steps for care. Depending on the situation, this may include treatment at the scene, transport to hospital, or referral to another healthcare service.

To help provide the best possible care, paramedics may ask questions about medical history, medications, allergies, and the events leading up to the emergency.

The goal is to provide timely, compassionate, patient-centred care while ensuring patients receive the right care in the right place.

Hours of Operation: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., 7 days per week.

Community Paramedics may support:

• Individuals living with complex or multiple health conditions
• Homebound or mobility-limited individuals
• Individuals without access to a primary care provider
• People transitioning home following a hospital stay
• Individuals who require ongoing monitoring, assessment, or treatment in the home
• Individuals receiving palliative care at home
• Individuals experiencing changes in their health that may require timely assessment and support

Improving access to healthcare through community-based clinics and health services.

Community Clinics bring healthcare closer to home by delivering assessment, treatment, education, screening, and preventive care in convenient community settings. Clinics are delivered in collaboration with housing providers, retirement homes, community organizations, and healthcare partners to address identified community health needs.

Community Clinics may provide:

• Health assessments and screening
• Chronic disease support and monitoring
• Preventive care and wellness services
• Health education and self-management support
• Vaccination and public health initiatives
• Connections to healthcare and community resources

Working together to improve access to healthcare.

Community Paramedicine works alongside healthcare providers, retirement homes, community organizations, and health system partners to deliver specialized services and innovative models of care. These partnerships help bring healthcare closer to home while improving access to services for residents across Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

Current partnerships and initiatives include:

• Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Joint delivery of Community Outreach services through the Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub, with integrated teams consisting of a Community Paramedic and a CMHA Outreach Worker.
• Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centres – Annual vaccination clinics and community-based healthcare initiatives.
• Hastings County Housing Services – Community Clinics and health promotion initiatives delivered within housing sites.
• Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team (HPE OHT) – Collaborative healthcare initiatives, including a regional spirometry pilot designed to improve access to respiratory testing.
• Retirement Homes – Clinical support services, healthcare partnerships, and Community Paramedicine initiatives designed to improve access to care for residents.
• Southeast Public Health - Supporting immunizations, infectious disease management, and sexual health testing and treatment.
• Primary Care and Specialist Partners – Collaborative programs that connect patients with healthcare services closer to home.
